Nov 25: A unique agriculture festival called the Tulsi mahotsav that celebrates the wonder herb Tulsi (holy basil) was held in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh this week. The festival was celebrated by a cluster of 13 villages where Tulsi cultivation is popular.
Organised by ORGANIC INDIA with its Tulsi farmers, the festival is held at the onset of winter. It seeks to honour Tulsi and pay tribute to Tulsi farmers who have converted the ravaged soil into fields of prosperity. This is the only festival in the world which celebrates the queen of herbs.
"The Tulsi Mahotsav has become the most-cherished festivities on the calendar of the Tulsi farmers in Azamgarh since they began cultivating Tulsi. It is held every year at the end of the Tulsi harvest in Azamgarh. We have brought together people from all over the world to carry on the mission of health and wellness globally. At the same time we are committed to further spread the mission of organic, sustainable, and profitable modality for farmers," said global CEO and MD of ORGANIC INDIA, Krishan Guptaa.
The festival, this year, was inaugurated by Dr Joseph Mercola from the US, a global leader in natural healthcare and organic agriculture and its propagation. He is also a New York Times bestselling author and famous for his health awareness website called mercola.com. Well-known actress and activist Shabana Azmi, who has her ancestral roots in Azamgarh, was the guest of honour at the event.
Dr Mercola said, "ORGANIC INDIA is making remarkable progress in making crucial transformations that are necessary to improve the health of India and the world. I am very excited to see their commitment and passion."
